Course description
The Award is at the same level as the Diploma and you will have a similar experience during the course, although with only six units per year you will find the pace a little less demanding.
You will discover:
• The range of jobs available to people with a passion for sport
• The role of sport in society
• How to coach and train competitors of all levels.
You will learn the theory and practice of:
• Teaching sport to children
• How to test for fitness
• How to plan and use training programmes for competitors.
You will take part in:
• Practical sports
• Coaching sessions
• A project on how the body works
• Teaching sessions for local school children.
The course is designed to be as practical as possible so that you will enjoy a wide range of experiences to help you understand the content of the units. This is an active course which balances theory with its practical application in a variety of situations, it is a course-work based qualification and you will be able to track your progress as you complete work.
There are two compulsory units: Sport in Society and Ethics and Values in Sport with four specialist units, Practical Sport, Fitness Testing, Principles of Coaching and Sports Development.

Final award
BTEC National Award in Sport (Sports Development and Fitness) â€" equivalent to one A-Level.

You must have an interest in sport and have three GCSEs at grade C or above.

This course is offered at our Abingdon Campus only.
*Students aged 16-18 will not be required to pay the full course fee, in most cases your fee will not exceed £150. Please contact us if you need more information regarding fees for full-time courses.
