Attendance
You are expected to be available to attend college Monday to Thursday 9am to 5.30pm and Friday 9am to 4.30pm.

Course description
This is course for people who wish to be employed in a construction discipline such as:

Architectural Design, Estimating, Planning,

Buying, Surveying, Property, Housing,

Site Engineer.

You will need a willingness to work independently or as part of a small study group under the direct supervision of the course tutor.

Course Structure
The course consists of 12 units: 6 core units, 6 specialist units.

  • Building Technology in Construction


Specialist Units:
  • Planning, Organisation and Control of Resources
  • Measuring, Tendering and Estimating Processes
  • Surveying in Construction

  • Building Regulations and Control
  • ICT and CAD
  • Employment Related Project
  • Planning Procedures
  • Property Law
  • Land Information


You will also study Key Skills which include Maths and English.

Course Assessment
You will achieve competence in many skills, which will be assessed using your assignment work, throughout the course.

Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old on 31 August 2010. However, you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your interview.

Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged, which are beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will be provided at the time of interview.

Course Progression
Successful completion of National certificate will enable students to progress to HNC programme in construction.

Course Career Prospects
Student not already in employment could apply for technical jobs in the construction industry E.g. Building Surveyor, Quantity Surveyor, Architectural Technician, Buyer/Estimator etc.
