Description of course:
This course consists of eight core units and a number of specialist units to enable the student to achieve 720 credits. These provide both the key knowledge and the practical caring skills required to work in a wide range of care environments. There will also be work experience in five block placement weeks, in a variety of settings each year.

Method of assessment:
There are no external examinations, all units are assessed by internal assignments. All units are graded individually to pass merit or distinction level. In order to meet a pass grade, all learners must meet the assessment criteria as set out by the awarding body.

Progression opportunities and careers:
This qualification will allow full time learners to gain a nationally recognised vocationally specific qualification and therefore learners would be able to enter employment in hospitals, care homes and other health related fields as well as in community work, housing and the voluntary sector. It will also enable learners to progress to a HNC/HND/degree course.

Entry requirements:
A minimum of 4 GCSEs grade C or above or a pass grade at a Level 2 vocational course.

Specific entry requirements:
English Language grade C or above, or merit grade from a vocational qualification is preferred.

Additional qualifications studied:
All full time students will undertake a combination of additional qualifications that will enhance their study skills and those skills that will be important in employment
