Course description
Medical Science will help you build and develop the necessary skills, techniques and attitudes to begin a successful professional career as a science technician within the medical or scientific environment. It can also be used to move on to Higher Education at university. You will gain an understanding of the employment opportunities available to science technicians, so that you can progress into a specific area of work. You will learn in a variety of ways including scientific investigations, research projects, visits to real laboratories, project work, group and individual work etc. You will be encouraged to undertake work experience to gain an understanding of how an industrial laboratory operates. This qualification will provide students with the opportunity to specialise in medical science, and specific areas within this, such as human physiology, medical science techniques in
various fields or electronics.
You will be assessed throughout the 2 years. These assessments will include formal written assignments, practical tasks, portfolio work, tests etc. There are no exams at the end of the course.

Edexcel (BTEC) National Diploma in Applied Science (Medical Science)

Entry requirements
At least 5 GCSEs grade C or above including Maths and a Science or a Merit on the First Diploma in Applied Science.
Mature students are encouraged to apply regardless of qualifications and will be accepted based on an acceptable interview.
