Course description
You will discover:
- The range of jobs available to people with a passion for sport
- The role of sport in society
- How sports people think
- How to coach and train competitors at all levels.
You will learn the theory and practice of:
- Teaching sport to children
- How the body works and how to train it
- How to plan and use training programmes for competitors
- How to plan and use training programmes for people with particular needs
- Sports massage.
You will take part in:
- Practical sports
- Coaching sessions
- A project on how the body works
- Teaching sessions for local school children
- Work experience
- Working with local health professionals to treat patients.
The course is designed to be as practical as possible so that you will enjoy a wide range of experiences to help you understand the content of the units. This is an active course which balances theory with its practical application in a variety of situations, it is a course-work based qualification and you will be able to track your progress as you complete work.

A range of additional qualifications is also available to improve your opportunities and future career choices: Community Sports Leader Award, Higher Sports Leader Award, First Aid, Maths/English GCSE retakes, Governing body awards and YMCA awards.
Final award
Edexcel BTEC National Diploma in Sport (Sports Development and Fitness) â€" equivalent to three A Levels.
