Course description
You will discover:

  • The range of jobs available to people with a passion for sport
  • The role of sport in society
  • How sports people think
  • How to coach and train competitors at all levels.

You will learn the theory and practice of:

  • Teaching sport to children
  • How the body works and how to train it
  • How to plan and use training programmes for competitors
  • How to plan and use training programmes for people with particular needs
  • Sports massage.

You will take part in:

  • Practical sports
  • Coaching sessions
  • A project on how the body works
  • Teaching sessions for local school children
  • Work experience
  • Working with local health professionals to treat patients.

The course is designed to be as practical as possible so that you will enjoy a wide range of experiences to help you understand the content of the units. This is an active course which balances theory with its practical application in a variety of situations, it is a course-work based qualification and you will be able to track your progress as you complete work.

  • Sports Development
  • Special Populations

A range of additional qualifications is also available to improve your opportunities and future career choices: Community Sports Leader Award, Higher Sports Leader Award, First Aid, Maths/English GCSE retakes, Governing body awards and YMCA awards.

Final award
Edexcel BTEC National Diploma in Sport (Sports Development and Fitness) â€" equivalent to three A Levels.
