Course Summary:
The BTEC Introductory Diploma in Business, Retail and Administration at Nescot is a full-time course which will introduce you to the skills required for a career in Business, Retail and Administration. Through the course you will grow in confidence as your skills and qualifications increase.
Course Details:
The course includes qualifications which are both practically and academically based. The Introductory Diploma is an eight unit full-time qualification introducing you to working in the business environment. It also includes the key skills of Communication, Application of Number and Information and Communication Technology which are essential in the world of work.
There will be opportunities to go on visits to see how businesses work and you may have the opportunity of carrying out practical work-based activities within the college to build your work experience. The course has eight units under the following headings:
Vocational Core Units
Unit 1 - Starting Work in Business, Retail and Administration
Unit 2 - Working in Business, Retail and Administration
Unit 3 - Introducing Customer Service
Personal Skills Units
Unit 4 - Personal Effectiveness Financial Management
Vocational Units
Unit 7 - Ensuring Personal Health and Safety at Work
Unit 8 - Communicating Effectively at Work
Unit 9 - Introduction to Retail.
Career Progression:
Successful completion of this course will enable you to move on to other courses within the department, such as a BTEC First Diploma in Business, or you may use the qualification to start a level 2 programme in another area.The qualification is recognised by employers.
Other Information:
Assessment is mainly by coursework. You will take exams in Key Skills. Units 1 and 2 are assessed by project, set and marked by the exam board. All the other units will be marked by your lecturers.
Fees:
A range of compulsory and optional visits will be arranged and will cost approximately 50 in total for the year. In previous years we have visited Cadburys World and Thorpe Park to look at how the businesses work.
