Business Studies First Diploma
This course will provide you with an excellent preparation for a career in the business and commercial world.

Course Content:
Subjects studied may include:

• Business activities
• Finance
• On-line business
• Sales and customer service
• Business start-up

You will also have the opportunity to study, or re-take, GCSEs. The key skills of communication (interpreting language and using IT), application of number (use of numeracy in business context) and information technology (using IT to carry out practical tasks in a work-related situation) are also studied.

Attendance Requirements:
Full-time. Details regarding expected course timetable and attendance will be given at interview, if available.

Entry Requirements:
Applicants should have one of the following:

• At least four GCSEs at grade D or above
• A BTEC Introductory
/Foundation level at merit or distinction plus Level 1 Maths and English Functional Skills
• Mature applicants without formal qualifications will be considered on an individual basis

Entry Process:
All applicants will be invited to an interview with the tutor, allowing you to find out more and check that the course is the best option for you. Interviews normally take place between January and September of the year in which the course starts.

Assessment:
Assessment is continuous throughout the course by internally and externally set coursework. For the GCSEs assessment varies from subject to subject, but may include end-of-year examinations.

Progression Routes:
Successful students can consider progression to a Level 3 qualification, such as a BTEC National Diploma in Business offered by the College.

Career Options:
Employment opportunities include clerical and administrative office-based positions. With further study, positions at a higher level may be possible.
