Complementary & Alternative Therapies L3 Diploma
This one year intensive full time course focuses on the development of the underlying principles and practical skills in the complementary therapies industry. It is designed to deliver a high level of occupational capability and is for people who wish to develop their knowledge and skills in complementary therapies to National Occupational Standards.

Course Content:
This course will cover the following subjects:

  • Business practice for Therapists
  • Maintain, health, safety and security in the work place and hygiene legislation
  • Business practice for complementary therapists
  • Principles and practices of Complementary therapists
  • Communicate effectively with clients and health care professionals
  • Managing stress
  • Research techniques
  • Provide Aromatherapy and reflective practice
  • Provide Body massage and reflective practice
  • Provide Reflexology and reflective practice
  • Client consultation skills
  • Anatomy Physiology and Pathology
  • Case studies in line with National Occupational Standards
  • Problem solving
  • Relevant underpinning knowledge

Please be aware that the College asks all students to maintain the smart and professional appearance of our trainee therapists by adhering to the departments dress code. In addition, the wearing of protective uniform is essential in the salon in order to comply with the Industry Code of Practice.

Attendance Requirements:
Students will attend three days in College and one day will be for Case Study work during the Spring and Summer terms.

Entry Requirements:

  • A high standard of general education and satisfactory interview and
  • /or a background in Holistic or Beauty Therapies or the Medical Profession.

    Accreditation of Prior Learning / Experience:
    Yes: Level 3 Body Massage qualification, Certificate in Aromatherapy or Reflexology

    Entry Process:
    All applicants will be invited to an interview with the tutor Hilary Cowley or Jenny Stanbury. Interviews normally take place between January and September of the year in which the course starts.

  • On line synoptic exams for mandatory generic theory based units
  • Written externally marked exam papers for practical units
  • On going formative assessment for practical skills with

  • Graded assignment work and case studies


  • Progression Routes:
    Students may progress onto the Foundation degree in Complementary Therapies or BSc Complementary Medicine. On successful completion of this qualification students will be able to join the Aromatherapy and Allied Practitioners Association (AAPA) and the International Federation of Reflexologists( IFR)
