Dance GCSE (Level 2)
Course Content
This one-year course is designed for those who wish to gain an initial qualification in dance as a specialist subject or as a first step to further study in dance or the performing arts.
You may be studying on an advanced course already and be using the GSCE as an additional subject to enhance opportunities in Higher Education.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in college productions. Study units include:
  • Solo Dance Performance;
  • Group Dance Performance;
  • Choreography;
  • Study of a Set Work.

You will develop your performance and choreographic skills along with your ability to analyse the work of others. You will be given the opportunity to improve your own movement skills and vocabulary as well as creating your own dance work.
Teaching/Assessment
You will undertake a mixture of pracitcal and theory work and be assessed on your ability to perform, choreograph and write about dance.
Set study - performance of a learned dance set by the examining board 20%
Performance and Choreography - performance in a group dance; choreography of a solo dance and a brief written discription 60%
Written paper - questions on the set work "Front Line" by ex-Swansea College student Henri Oguike and four other dance works 20%
Progression
This course will need to be studied in conjunction with a range of other subjects at GCSE or First Diploma and can lead to further study at National Diploma or A Level.
Additional Information
Students will require appropriate dance clothing.
