Course aims:
Would you like to build on your existing skills, qualifications and training for the Engineering industry? Would you like to develop your ability and confidence to perform engineering tasks such as electronic circuit manufacture, mathematics, electronic devices and marking out? Then this is the course for you.
There are an estimated 800,000 engineers employed in the UK and the engineering manufacturing industry employs 1.7 million people in total. Other specialist areas include vehicle technology and mechanical engineering.
This course aims to give you the skills and confidence to apply for introductory jobs within the engineering industry, as well as preparing you for progression onto the BTEC National Diploma.

Course content:
On this course you will study:
  • Working practices in engineering
  • Using and interpreting engineering information
  • Applied electrical and mechanical sciences
  • Mathematics for engineers
  • Electronic devices and communications applications
  • Selecting engineering materials
  • Selecting and using secondary machining techniques to remove material
  • Engineering marking out
  • Electronic circuit manufacture

Our Engineering department benefits from some of the best facilities in the region. You will work with machinery and equipment that is used in the professional world and will leave you well prepared for when you begin employment.
Our facilities were recently recognised by being awarded hosting duties for one of the Heats events for the World Skills International competitions.

Entry Requirements:
You should have a minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade D or above including Maths, English and Science/Technology or NVQ Level 1 Award or equivalent.

Interview for entry: Interview required

Progression and links:
This course will prepare you for the BTEC National Diploma in Engineering (Level3) as long as you achieve a merit grade.
Alternatively, you may wish to enter employment in the Engineering industry at an introductory level.
