This course is for those who intend to enter a career in electronic/electrical engineering. You will be studying a wide selection of subjects (units) as detailed below.

What will you study
The course is made up of 6 Core Units: Business Systems for Technicians Unit * Communications for Technicians * Engineering Project * Mathematics for Technicians * Electrical and Electronic Principles * Mechanical Principles and Applications. Plus 6 specialist units from the following: *Engineering Design * Commercial Aspects of Organisations Employing Engineers * Selection and Applications of Programmable Logic Controllers * Further Mathematics for Engineers * Electronic Circuit Manufacture * Principles and Applications of Electronic Devices and Circuits * Principles and Applications of Analogue Electronics * Microprocessor Systems and Applications * Electronic Fault-finding * Further Electrical Principles.

How will you be assessed
Continuous throughout the course in the form of projects, assignments, case studies and coursework and written tests for each mandatory unit.

What can you do after course
You can move on to an HNC/HND or Degree course and/or employment in a related industry such as Medical Physics, Aeronautics, Telecommunications, Environmental Technology, Computing and Acoustic Technology.

Additional information
The College is often notified of engineering vacancies with locally based companies. You will need to study and develop Key Skills / Functional Skills to the appropriate level. This again is an important requirement for your course studies, employment and apprenticeships. Please note that students will need to supply their own overall (as required), safety boots (as required), pen, pencil, paper and scientific calculator.
