A close analysis of individual films is made alongside a broad appreciation of the relationship between the film industry and the audience. Coursework components allow students the opportunity to conduct their own research on a particular film director and to work on a practical project such as screenwriting or film/video making. Assessment is through coursework submission and two formal exams held in June. The course follows the Welsh Joint Education Committee Board.

Method of Study
Teaching and learning takes place through a mixture of lectures, seminars, and workshop on specific topics. Throughout the course there will be screening of films (complete or extracts) from a wide range of genres for discussion and critical analysis.

Progression
Following successful completion of the AS level, students can take a further three units in A2 to complete the A level film studies. After which students often opt for higher education in related media degrees or HNDs, however students may consider a career in the media industry at this point.
