Summary:

This unique course provides exciting opportunities to use art in the community or the health sector to promote well being. If you have a keen interest in the visual arts, enjoy meeting challenges with imagination and creativity and working with others to raise their level of self-esteem and confidence then this is the course for you. You will develop a variety of skills in arts practice, communication and working with diverse client groups in community and health care environments. The foundation degree is for:-
  • Those who would like to work as an arts facilitator in the community or health care sector
  • Those who would like to work within art and creative industries
  • Those who would like to gain a level 4 qualification
  • Those currently employed in areas of community work and health care that wish to extend or enhance their creative skills.

Two years
Course Schedule:
2 days and 1 evening class per week
Entry Requirements:

Mature students may be accepted without formal qualifications if they have either:-
  • A portfolio of recent creative work in arts and crafts
  • An Access certificate in Art and Design
  • An Access certificate in a related area
  • Appropriate work experience supported by a demonstrated commitment to pursue a specialist area of study

Other applicants will need one of the following:-
  • BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design or related subject or a GNVQ Advanced Art and Design
  • Two GCE A levels at C or above including either art, textiles, photography, design or another art related subject, with 4 GCSEs at A*-C
  • Plus evidence of appropriate work experience supported by a demonstrated commitment to pursue a specialist area of study

Applicants will also need to have a GCSE in English Language at Grade C or above or an equivalent qualification.

Applicants will be required to provide references and will need to complete a Criminal Records Bureau check. Whilst you must be able to fulfil the academic entry-level requirements we respond to an individual's passion and commitment to art and desire to work with people. This is why we place emphasis upon the applicant's personal interview. This is your chance to demonstrate to us your interest and enthusiasm.

Core Skills:
This two year programme is split into two distinct areas, core and specialist units. This ensures a good foundation in visual skills and media, creative thinking, specialist projects and the application of those skills in the workplace.

Assessment:
Each module is assessed separately and a variety of methods will be used throughout the course. These may include visual portfolio work, project work, coursework, report writing, presentations and observations.

Academic Progression:
You could progress to study for a further year (top up) to a full BA (Hons) award at another local provider.
