Introduction
The aim of the course is to develop the skills gained on the AS level and attach them to a higher level of understanding. You will focus on how meaning is made through film, world cinema and critical approaches to issues and debates surrounding film.

Description
The course includes individual research and creative work based on on an auteur study (how a director's or star's work can be recognised by their individual style and themes). You will also undertake a practical project choosing either Film Journalism or Screen Writing. Studies in World Cinema will focus on how film styles and movements have developed and their impact on cinema, such as 'new waves' in world cinema - France, Hong Kong, Mexico. You will also undertake a close study of a contemporary world film. You will also study diverse cinematic debates and issues as 'shocking cinema', independent film and film intepretation

Duration
One year

Method of Study
Teaching and learning takes place through a mixture of lectures, seminars and workshops on specific topics. Throughout the course there will a screening of films (complete or extracts) from the study areas for dicsussion and critical analysis.

Progression
A2 Film Studies leads to higher education courses in media/humanities or to employment. Film Studies may prove a useful grounding for students contemplating a career in the media, film, journalism or advertising industries
