What will I study?
Practical hairdressing, including all aspects of modern hairdressing, i. e. colouring, cutting, curling, styling, reception duties, use of salon IT, background theory and design; theatrical make-up, beauty studies, including 'facials, make-up, manicure and eye treatments. You will also undertake work placement in an approved situation.

Duration:
Two years full time.

Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?
Qualities needed for this industry: motivation and a will to succeed, dedication to build a portfolio of work, enthusiasm to cope when the going gets tough, the ability to communicate and to be able to discuss and debate with clients, creativity, an eye for shape and design, possess good personal appearance to promote the industry. Good attendance and punctuality is an industry requirement.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed on your practical work in our training studios. Complete assignments and projects. Some short-answer tests papers. Some externally set and marked tests.

What can I do afterwards?
You could move on to do Advanced Hairdressing NVQ Level 3, or Beauty Therapy Studies NVQ Level 3, or go on to work in a salon, cruise liner or health farm.

Are there any additional costs involved?
All students purchase a kit and uniform for hairdressing, beauty and theatrical make-up through the college, costs discussed at interview.
