History A Level (Level 3)
Course Content
The AS course covers topics from 20th century world history.
In the second year of study, students will be given the opportunity to produce an extended essay on an historical subject of their choice.
Study units include:
Nazi Germany;
Welfare and the constitution - the Liberal governments 1905-15;
Pursuing 'life and liberty' - civil rights in the USA 1945-68.
This course is offered in partnership with Bishop Gore Comprehensive School.
Teaching/Assessment
Good writing skills are required as most marks are assigned to essay questions. Students must be prepared to analyse problems and produce logical answers.

Progression
Students can progress to study History at degree level or another arts subject.
This subject also provides a useful background for the further study and/or employment in Law, Politics and teaching.
