Course Overview
This course will give you the grounding for a high level career in computing, particularly in those areas relating to information technology, e-commerce, distributed systems and object-oriented design. The course is aimed at people who are looking for a career in the IT industry.

What will I study?
Topics available include the study of e-commerce, databases, websites, databases and computer science. Our supportive, highly qualified and experienced staff, together with accessible and interactive lecture/seminar formats, all help to ensure you will have a rewarding academic experience. The assessments are challenging and are designed to develop a range of key skills that will support a career, further study or research in Computing. The course is assessed by practical work and examinations.

Modules can include
Year one is common to all the computer-related degrees and covers the foundation subjects in Computing; hardware, networking and computer programming.

Year two of the Honours programme combines Formal Computer Science, e-commerce, databases, Research and Project Work with a range of optional modules.

Year three includes the development of Distributed Systems, Object-Oriented Design and UML , and Intelligent Agents with a range of optional modules. An advanced project carried out in the final year and issues relating to the computing profession are studied.

Course Requirements
This course can be studied as a three year Honours Degree, as a three year Ordinary Degree, or as a top-up from HNC/D or Foundation Degree. All routes are available part-time. Prospective students need to satisfy one of the following: 120 UCAS points for entry to the three year ordinary degree 160 UCAS points for entry to the three year Honours degree Applicants without the required UCAS points will be considered on the basis of aptitude, interest and experience For the top-up programmes: Entry to year 2 requires an HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject. Students entering at year 2 level can complete an ordinary degree in one year or an Honours Degree in two years. Direct entry to year 3 is possible and normally requires either an ordinary degree or a Foundation Degree in a closely related subject. Depending on the subjects previously studied applicants may be required to complete a short bridging course before starting the Honours programme.
