Intensive ESOL Intermediate 2 Aim of Course:
At this level, you can already use English comfortably in a wide range of situations. However, you may wish to become more familiar with idiomatic English, use more sophisticated grammar and vocabulary and more easily understand film, TV and radio. This course aims to build on existing skills and help you become more accurate, more fluent and more confident so that you can access suitable work, training and study opportunities.
Course Content:
The course will include the following units at SQA Intermediate 2 level: ESOL: Everyday Communication, ESOL: Study-related Contexts, Working with Others, Problem Solving, Local Investigations, IT Skills, Workplace Communication in English.
The course will also include College certificates in Job Seeking Skills, Communication Skills, Personal Presentation, ESOL and Citizenship, Study Skills, Exam Practice for IELTS.
There will be many opportunities for practice through role-play, discussions, group work, presentations and project work. We will make full use of our modern language laboratory facility.
To gain the full SQA ESOL Intermediate 2 qualification, candidates will have to sit an external examination as part of the course. This exam takes place in June 2011.
Duration:
The full-time ESOL courses take place five days a week, either morning or afternoon. Courses run from August 2010 until June 2011.
Educational Progression:
You can progress to Intensive ESOL Higher or a course from the wider College programme. Stronger candidates may feel ready, depending on previous experience, to apply for HNC courses in the College. Acceptance on to any HNC course is decided by interview.
Career Progression:
Successful completion of this course will increase your work and study options in a wide range of subject areas.
Qualifications Required:
Applicants will be expected to have successfully completed an Intermediate 1 level qualification or the equivalent. All applicants will be invited for an interview and you will be assessed so that we can advise you on the most suitable level for your needs.
