Special Features
Our main aim on this course is to get our students into employment, which we do by targeting the best universities, but also by giving a taste of what its really like to work in the media. So we set up regular visits from TV professionals; this year so far, we had a BBC news reporter, a professional make-up artist and a director from Coronation Street in to do workshops with our students. Students also have the opportunity to participate in events such as BBC Blast NI workshops, Queens Film Theatre, Cinemagic, as well as winning Media competitions, such as Mind Your Head a short film about mental health issues.
Achievements/Qualifications
The BTEC National Diploma is equivalent to three A-Levels, and will give you potential access to more than 2000 media-related university courses throughout the UK. By the end of the course, your level of training will be such that you will be equipped to enter the industry, or else proceed to a related university degree. In either case, you will be able to show a portfolio of visual work, executed to a high standard. Media is one of the few industries that is growing all the time, worldwide, and so has great employment opportunities. In the past 7 years, over 85% of graduating students have progressed to university education, usually on courses in such areas as TV, film, journalism, public relations, advertising, multimedia, music technology etc. From there some have gone on to run their own video production companies or into employment with broadcasters like the BBC, UTV and Endemol (Big Brother). Other students have gone directly into employment with the local press, film production or setting up a recording business. We are an official feeder college for Britains top TV training University, Ravensbourne College of Art and Design, London.
