Mathematics: Use of Maths AS/A2
AS Use of Maths is for students who want to learn how to apply advanced mathematics in real and interesting contexts. There is less emphasis on content than in other A Level Mathematics courses and more focus on application, understanding, reasoning and communication. You will be encouraged to apply mathematics in your other studies and interests.

What will I study?
AS: You will take 1 compulsory units:

• Alegebra

And 2 further units from:

• Data analysis
• Hypothesis testing
• Decision Maths
• Dynamics
• Mathematical Principles for Personal Finance

A2: You will take 3 compulsory units

• Calculus
• Comprehension
• Applications (portfolio based)

The course will involve the use of IT as a tool in mathematical work and you will complete coursework for two of the units.

How will I be assessed?
AS: 3 written examinations

A2: 2 written examinations plus one portfolio unit

Use of Maths is particularly useful if you are interested in following a science, business or geography based career.
