Media BTEC First Diploma
This is a practical course which will give you an understanding of media production and allow you to develop practical skills in areas such as video and digital imaging. It introduces you to the employment areas in the media and how they work. You will complete projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations and have access to specialist resources, such as digital video cameras and editing equipment, and the latest in IT.

What will I study?
Throughout the course you will build up your knowledge and practical skills in research and planning, and use of specialist equipment as well as the analysis of media texts.

You will study 3 core units:

• Introduction to Media Industries
• Research for Media Production
• Introduction to Media Audiences and Products

You will study 4 specialist units

• Video Production
• Advertising Production
• Web Authoring
• Print Production

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through practical projects and assignments.

What can I do next?
On successful completion of the course you will have a qualification which is equivalent to 4 GCSEs grades A-C. You could go on to study the BTEC National Diploma in Media, or A levels in Media Studies, Film Studies or Photography.
