About this course
You will need five GCSEs at Grade C or above (including English Language) or an equivalent vocational qualification. Mature students will be considered on the basis of relevant ability and experience.

The course covers all aspects of media from an investigation and analysis of media products such as television programs, advertisements and newspapers to an understanding of how media institutions work. It also investigates debates about the effects of media on society. Practical coursework assignments allow you to demonstrate an understanding of the media by producing media products for specific audiences. Assessment is through coursework and formal examinations held in June.

Method of Study
There will be a mix of classroom based work and project work. The analytical approach to gain understanding of media products will include a lot of research and discussion work.
Progression
Following successful completion of the AS, students may take the 2nd year and complete A level media studies. After which students often opt for higher education in related media degrees or HNDs, however students may consider a career in the media industry at this point.
