About this course

Students will require 4 GCSEs at Grades C or above, BTEC First Diploma, or an Intermediate GNVQ, or have equivalent experience in the music industry.

The ability to play a musical instrument to at least Grade 5 standard (ABRSM) is essential.

Course Content
This two-year course provides training for the live music industry and gives students the chance to experience a range of recording and sequencing opportunites.
It will suit those who want to work in sound engineering (recording studio), events support, venue management or artistic programming.
Study units include:
  • The Music Industry;
  • Midi Sequencing;
  • Audio Recording;
  • Studio Production;
  • History of Pop;
  • Live Sound;
  • Composing.

In the final year, students will work on a major project involving recording and producing a band in the sound studios, promoting and running a gig and marketing a CD.
The course is equivalent to 120-360 UCAS points.
Teaching/Assessment
This is a vocational course involving mainly practical work. There are no examinations on this course, qualification is gained through continual assessment. The final major project involves the recording and marketing of local bands in the College's own sound recording studio.
Progression
Most students go onto Higher Education, either on a similar HND course or at degree level.
It can lead to employment in sound engineering (recording studio), events support, cultural venues and artistic programming.
Additional Information
Students will be required to purchase a zip disc. Use of a home PC would be an advantage.
