This course aims to help develop the skills and knowledge required to gain employment in the uniformed public services such as becoming an Army officer, army soldier, merchant navy deck officer, merchant navy rating, police officer, prison officer, Royal air force officer, Royal marines officer. The qualification aims to give learners the opportunity to develop a range of skills, techniques, personal attributes and attitudes essential for successful performance in public services careers.

What will I learn?
* The course is made up of 8 units studied over one year. The units are a mixture of practical and theoretical subjects. Residential outdoor visits are likely to be combined into this programme to compliment studies and to enable pursuit and physical outdoor skills. The units studied include: * Preparing for entry to the uniformed services. * Developing aspects of physical fitness * Refining leadership skills * Legal implications of physical actions * Carry out advanced map reading * Demonstrate an understanding of current affairs * Assist with planning and leading adventurous activities * Using telecommunications in emergency situations. The Public Service team also has strong links with external agencies such as the army and navy and visits from external speakers will also be part of your course.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed by a Portfolio of evidence for each unit.

What can I do after the course?
You can progress onto a level 4 qualification or enter into work in the uniformed public services.
