Administration and Secretarial Skills (NVQ 2 & 3)

What will I be studying?
The main qualification gained is the OCR NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) Level 2 or 3 in Business and Administration. This course is offered in English and bilingually.

This competence-based qualification has been designed to meet industry-led standards. You may demonstrate competence through work activities carried out in the College Training Office and during a one day a week work experience placement in the second term, which is an integral part of the course. Embedded within the delivery of this course will be a variety of Key Skills.

The course is designed to cover a wide range of office tasks including the use of electronic machinery and other office equipment, data processing and storage, mailhandling and processing payments, team building and other administrative skills. At level 3 you would also be carrying out supervisory tasks.

You can add to your achievements by studying for examinations in subjects such as word processing,audio-transcription, business presentations, bookkeeping and computerised accounts. By gaining certain examinations you can also achieve the OCR's Diploma in Text Processing at Level 2 and/or Level 3.

Administration is delivered through activities which give the opportunity to demonstrate skills and competencies. These include organising events/visits and undertaking the associated administrative tasks e.g. planning and agreeing work, developing and maintaining working relationships, researching and presenting information and organising and supporting meetings. Use of up-to-date computer resources and modern training office equipment facilitate learning.

Welsh speakers are advised to follow the course bilingually as this will greatly enhance employment and career prospects.

Good employment opportunities are immediately available, both locally and further afield, for those wishing to put their office skills into practice.
