NVQ 3 Theatrical and Media Make-Up
What will I be learning?
You will cover the use of make-up for theatrical, film and television purposes. Study will include character make-up, special effects and wigs and postiche for media make-up. Students will also have the opportunity to develop design skills via basic art tuition.
You will be required to work to commercial timings when carrying out treatments and part of your training will be aimed at ensuring you are able to cope with the demands of a commercial environment. The qualification is due to be revised during 2009/2010; as a result of this the areas of study may change.
How will I learn?
The course is a mix of practical and theory sessions delivered by qualified and experienced beauty therapists and make-up artists. The emphasis is towards practical development and there are more salon sessions than theory. Initially, you will be working on members of your group and you will be required to model for other students.
Once you have reached a satisfactory standard you will work on clients (members of the general public) booked through our dedicated reception area or more typically participate in college productions, linking with the Performing Arts Section.
What else might I want to know?
You will take part in organised visits to the main trade exhibitions each year. You will also assist in organising in-house competitions which you can observe if you are not an entrant.
You will be expected to attend some evening events and participate inat least one theatre production.
Occasionally you may need to attend college outside of usual days attendance to gain experience of working with different media groups.
Key skills are vital for the development a professional image and salon persona. Employers in surveys state that they require basic IT, communication and number skills in their workforce.
Number is studied as a part of this course.
You will need to buy a uniform and kits of equiipment.
What can I do afterwards?
