Course Details

You will study and develop skills and knowledge to be able to work in a front of house role in the hospitality industry. The course has a particular focus on Reception Skills and Food and Drink Service. Your NVQ Level 2 Multi Skill qualification will cover: Reception procedures Reservation and enquiry handling skills Food and drink service Telecommunication skills Working in teams Customer care Preparation of guest accounts Selling skills Hygiene, health and safety Additionally you will be encouraged to take other optional qualifications including: Foundation Hygiene Certificate Foundation Health and Safety Certificate NVQ 2 Front Office CLAIT Key Skills The course includes 8 weeks of work experience in Term 3. Past students have taken up work experience opportunities in Hull and in other areas of the country.

Qualifications required:
You will need 3 GCSEs (grade C or above) or equivalent. Applications are welcome from mature students who may not possess the relevant academic qualifications. You will need good communication and number skills and it is essential that you enjoy working with people and have a pleasant and polite manner. NVQ Level 1 Reception is also available for 16-18 year olds who have not achieved the normal entry requirements.

Course hours:
15 hours and an additional 5 hours for extra qualifications. Plus 1 day work experience until the block placement commences.

Progression:
The aim of this course is to prepare students for work in hospitality front of house positions in Reception, Conference and Banqueting, Restaurant and Licensed Premises. Successful qualified students have taken up employment in different sized and rated hotels in various locations. Many ex-students have chosen to work in office environments.
Further college courses could include: NVQ Level 3 Reception or the BTEC National Diploma in Hospitality.
