ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants will have met the following entry requirements and attended a successful interview with satisfactory references providing information on behaviour, punctuality and attendance.
NVQ Level 2 in Beauty Therapy; or
BTEC First Certificate/Diploma in a related subject; and
A satisfactory reference from a Salon Manager regarding attendance, punctuality and behaviour;
A tutor reference to show excellent attendance, behaviour, and punctuality percentages at college;
Good manual dexterity skills(i.e. an ability to work with their hands); and
ITEC; or
IHBC; or
BABTAC; or
Other recognised UK/Overseas related FE Level 2 awards.
Achieve Initial Assessment in Numeracy at Entry Level 3 and working towards or at Level 2 for Literacy.
PROGRAMME CONTENT/STRUCTURE
This course involves both practical and theory classes. During the practical lessons students will be working in a realistic salon environment and will be expected to carry out beauty therapy treatments on each other and once they have reached a certain level of ability, clients. As clients for all courses cannot be guaranteed, students may need to provide their own clients. Following the successful completion of this course, students can go into full-time employment or progress onto qualifications in Holistic Therapies or an HND in Beauty Therapy.
In addition to Adult Literacy the subjects covered will include:
Anatomy and Physiology;
Health and Safety;
Promoting Sevices or Products;
Contribute to the Financial Effectiveness of the Business;
Electrical Epilation (this includes the use of fine needle like probes and is a compulsory, mandatory unit)
Head and Body Massage;
Body Electro Therapy;
Facial Electro Therapy and additional unit currently, Indian Head Massage but subject to change.
PROGRESSION/CAREERS OPPORTUNITIES
On successful completion of this course students can progress onto Higher National Diplomas (HNDs), Foundation Degrees, NVQ Level 4, Complementary Therapies Degree or Spa Management Degrees.
ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE Assignments, practical assessments, portfolio building, written exams.
EXCURSIONS / WORK EXPERIENCE Health and Beauty Exhibition.
