To obtain a place on this course, you will need 4 GCSE passes at grade D or above. The ability to communicate both verbally and in writing is essential. You will need to successfully complete an interview at the college, provide two professional references and a satisfactory Police Check and undertake a literacy assessment. The college welcomes applications from mature students who do not necessarily meet our standard academic entry requirements.

The Pathway course in Health & Social Care is a 1-year full-time Level 2 course with an extended route available should learner?s progress onto the NVQ option. The course has been developed to meet the needs of the care sector and is endorsed by the Care Council for Wales. The programme comprises of a Certificate on Care which underpins the knowledge and understanding required to work in a range of care settings. Time will be spent in college and on practical work placement. Learners will also complete a minimum of four Key Skills at an appropriate level as well as the Welsh Baccalaureate. Those students wishing to move into employment within the Care sector have the opportunity to undertake an NVQ level 2 in Care as part of this programme (additional 9 months of study).

What will I study?
The Certificate in Care comprises of four units which reflect the needs of the local industry. For the Welsh Baccalaureate you will explore a wide range of areas including how Wales ?fits in? with Europe and the rest of the world, the health of the nation and how to be enterprising.
How will I be assessed?
The course is assessed by unit assignments, via a range of methods, e.g. written assessments, oral presentations, role-play and group work as well as observations by your tutors. You will be continually assessed in college and at your work placements, for the development of your practical skills and academic knowledge.
Career Opportunities & Progression
The course is aimed at enhancing employment opportunities in the care sector. There are also opportunities to progress to Level 3 qualifications in Care.
