Performing Arts: Acting National Diploma
This two-year course has been designed to provide you with the opportunity to acquire a foundation of basic skills and the knowledge relevant to many areas of performance, with the key emphasis being placed on developing your practical skills in specific areas of acting. A BTEC National Diploma qualification is directly equivalent to three A-levels and offers a good opportunity for progression to Higher Education (HE) and employment.

Course Content:
The course will provide specialised training in acting techniques relevant to the performing arts industry. The course shares several core subjects that are common to all four BTEC National Diplomas in Performing Arts. These include:

  • Production techniques
  • Performing arts in context
  • Performance workshop
  • Background to Theatre
  • Production Project

You will also take part in classes covering English, Maths and IT relevant to performing arts. In addition to these core subjects the course will incorporate several subjects specific to acting and drama. These include:

  • Acting techniques (including acting, voice devising, script writing and theatre in education)
  • Contextual studies
  • Rehearsal
  • & production The course will be delivered through a combination of class, workshop and performance assignments.

    Key Skills:
    Key skills in English, Maths and IT are an integral part of the course.

    Edexcel.
    Attendance Requirements:
    Full-time. Details regarding expected course timetable and attendance will be given at interview, if available.

    Entry Requirements:
    Applicants should have one of the following:
  • At least five GCSEs at grade C or above (ideally including English Language) or
  • BTEC First Diploma in Performing Arts at Merit or Distinction
  • Applications from mature students with relevant experience will be considered individually

    Accreditation of Prior Learning / Experience:
    Applications from mature students with a profile of relevant previous experience will be considered individually.

    Entry Process:
    All applicants will be invited to an interview with the tutor, allowing you to find out more and check that the course is the best option for you. Interviews normally take place between January and September of the year in which the course starts.

    Assessment:
    Assessment is continuous with much of your work being subject to assessment. Some elements of the course will be externally assessed. To succeed on the course you must meet all assignment deadlines. There is no end-of-course examination.

    Progression Routes:
    Many of our past students have elected to continue their studies at higher education level, specialising in particular areas of drama. Others have decided to broaden their interests and study arts administration or marketing.

    Career Options:
    Successful students seeking employment following their studies have found work in arts, administration, dance and stagecraft at various levels, and with a variety of performance-based companies.
