This course is for anybody wishing to obtain -hands on engineering practice in mechanical and electrical engineering. It is not essential to be working in an engineering environment.

What will you study
units. The choice of the general units will depend on which areas are being covered in that academic year. Mandatory units: Working Safely in an Engineering Environment * Working Efficiently and Effectively in an Engineering Environment * Using and Communicating Technical Information. Generals units (a selection of): Preparing and Using Lathes for Turning Operations * Preparing and Proving CNC Machine Tool Programs * Preparing and Using CNC Turning Machines * Preparing and Using CNC Milling Machines * Producing CAD Models (drawings) using a CAD System * Producing Sheet Metal Components and Assemblies * Wiring and Testing Electrical Equipment and Circuits * Assembling and Testing Electronic Circuits.

How will you be assessed
Observation, practical work produced, written questions, oral questions, worksheets.

What can you do after course
This a fundamental part of the apprenticeship programme so an ideal pathway to employment and provides a full pathway to apprenticeship.

Additional information
This is a one year part time course, held on one day a week. You will need to purchase toe protector shoes/boots to wear in the workshop.
