On this one-year course you will study all the skills necessary to enable you to seek employment as an administrator, secretary or personal assistant within a legal environment.

Course Content:
The course incorporates the following qualifications:

  • OCR Level 3 Certificate in Administration
  • OCR Level 3 Certificate in Text Processing (Advanced)
  • OCR Level 2 Diploma in Text Processing (Intermediate)
  • OCR Level 3 Key Skills
  • OCR Level 3 Legal Units
  • OCR Level 3 Diploma in Administration (Legal Context)

OCR Level 3 Certificate in Administration This qualification is designed to recognise students understanding of complex administrative functions and activities. It provides ideal preparation for job roles where you will be expected to work independently at a senior level in a range of administrative tasks. It comprises the following units:

  • Unit 1
  • : Producing complex business documents
  • Unit 2
  • : Promoting effective working relationships
  • Unit 3
  • : Reviewing the organisation and business activities
  • Unit 4
  • : Reviewing and developing office procedures
  • Unit 5
  • : Creating an IT solution Units 1 and 3 are assessed by an externally set and marked examination in June. Units 2 and 4 are assignment based, locally assessed by the College and externally moderated. Unit 5 is examined, locally assessed by the College and externally moderated. An integral part of the assessment of Unit 2 is demonstrating the ability to deal with colleagues, and customers. Students will therefore be required to take an active part in team assignments and, on two occasions, deal with visitors to the College. OCR Level 3 Certificate in Text Processing (Advanced) These units aim to develop students ability to apply advanced processing and production skills to produce a variety of complex business documents in a work-related context. They are widely recognised by employers as the benchmark qualifications in text processing. In order to achieve the Certificate students must successfully complete the core unit of Text Production (Advanced) plus one other unit from those listed below:

  • Word Processing (Advanced)
  • Audio Transcription (Advanced)
  • Document presentation (Advanced)
  • Legal word processing (Advanced)
  • OCR Level 2 Diploma in Text Processing (Intermediate)

These units aim to develop students ability to produce a range of business documents in a work-related context. In order to achieve the Diploma students must successfully complete the core units of Text Production (Intermediate) plus one other unit from those listed below:

  • Legal text processing (Intermediate)
  • French text processing (Intermediate)
  • German text processing (Intermediate)

Students who successfully achieve the five units of the Level 3 Certificate in Administration and the two Level 3 Legal Units will be awarded the Level 3 Diploma in Administration (Legal Context). Students who successfully achieve the five units of the Level 3 Certificate in Administration and two units from the Level 3 Diploma in Text Processing (Advanced), including the core unit of Text production (Advanced) will be awarded the Level 3 Diploma in Administration (Text Processing).

Key Skills:
Key Skills are included; IT at Level 3 will be an integral part of the course.

Awarding body:
Oxford, Cambridge and RSA Examinations (OCR).

Work Experience / Practical Experience:
A two-week work placement is an integral part of this course.

    Entry Process:
    All applicants will be invited to an interview with the tutor, allowing you to find out more and check that the course is the best option for you. Interviews normally take place between January and September of the year in which the course starts.

    Assessment:
    Assessment differs for each of the subjects you study. For some it is based on continuous assessment, whereas others have formal examinations.

    Career Options:
    Employment as an administrator, secretary or personal assistant, within a legal or alternative environment, is possible. Past students have found opportunities particularly in law, marketing, personnel and sales.
