About this course
Students will require 5 GCSE passes at Grades C or above, prefereably with English Language and an interest in Photography.

Course Content
This two-year course involves a study of photography, its place in society and the role it plays as a medium of artistic expression and communication.
Practical work, in the photographic studio or on location, is supported by theoretical study to improve students' understanding of the power of visual images. Students produce practical, research/analytical assignments for all units.
Study units include:
- Photographic Materials, Techniques and Processes;
- Photographic Art and Visual Expression;
- History of Visual Communication.
Students consider photography as a means of artistic expression and the role it plays in our understanding of the world around us. Using both traditional 35mm and digitial technology, students develop a range of skills in capturing, processing and exhibiting a photographic work.
This course is equivalent to 40-120 UCAS points.
Teaching/Assessment
There is a programme of practical work in the photographic studios or on location. This is supported by theoretical study to improve student's understanding of the power of visual image.
Students produce practical assignments for all AS Level units on a variety of themes and utilising a variety of photographic techniques. At A Level students study photographic movements in greater depth and look at the inpact of other photographers' work on their own.
Progression
This qualification can lead to a number of Higher Education courses for example degrees in Photography, Graphic Design and Communication Studies.
Additional Information
There are a range of materials which students will need to study this course including black and white 35mm film, photographic printing paper and portfolios.
Students are strongly advised to buy their own 35mm camera. Advice will be given if prospective students wish to contact the Faculty.
