4 GCSE passes at 'C' grade or above or an overall merit grade at First Diploma in Art & Design (Merit grade). GCSE passes preferred in Art or Photography, English and Maths. All students will undertake a six week introductory/diagnostic course prior to progressing on to the National Diploma. Successful college interview. A portfolio of work.

Introduction

  • A vocational programme designed to develop specialist skills and knowledge in Photography and related subjects. You should be at least 16 years old with a passion and enthusiasm for the subject.


What will be covered in the course?

  • Core Units in the following; Visual Recording in Art & Design, Materials, Techniques and Processes in Art & Design Ideas & Concepts in Art & Design, Visual Communication in Art & Design. Plus a range of specialist units in photography, digital imaging and related areas including life drawing, contextual studies and computer aided art and design. Supporting studies for literacy and improving own learning is also undertaken.

What qualification(s) can be gained?
BTEC National Diploma in Photography.

How is the course assessed?
Work is internally assessed and verified and then externally examined and moderated.

Additional costs

  • £70 for a start up kit and then ongoing purchase of materials and equipment you should expect to spend at least £250 per annum on materials and field trips.


Attendance and additional study hours

  • Normally four days per week 23 hours with tutorials. Students are expected to work on their assignments on private study days and free time.

An Interview is required to join this course. Solihull College offers full time and part time courses for businesses and residents in Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry Warwickshire and the whole of the West Midlands.
Progression from this course is normally into higher education on to an HND, Foundation Degree or BA Hons in Photography or a related subject. This will lead to careers in Photography, Promotion/Publicity and Education
