About this course
The entry requirement for AS study is 5 GCSE passes at C grade or above. Previous study of GCSE Physical Education would be advantageous, although not essential. More important is a healthy attitude towards physical activity and that you regularly participate in your 2 chosen activities.

Course Content
The course will focus on the participation and performance in physical activity as part of a balanced, active and healthy lifestyle.
Students will be encouraged to develop their physical competence and their involvement and effectiveness in physical activity through a variety of roles, including performer, leader/coach and official.
The integration of theory and practice will be a key feature throughout the course.
Study units include:
- Anatomy and Physiology;
- Acquiring Movement Skills;
- Socio-cultural Studies Relating to Participation in Physical Activity;
- Sport Psychology;
- Comparative Studies;
- Exercise Physiology;
- Evaluation and Appreciation of Performance.
Teaching/Assessment
Assessment will be based on examination & coursework. At AS Level the coursework includes practical performance in 2 activities plus a Personal Performance Portfolio.
Whilst at A2 the coursework includes the performance of two practical activities plus a verbal "Observation & Analysis of Performance"
Progression
Usually you will be studying Physical Education as part of an AS/A2 programme that includes 2 or 3 other subjects. If Physical Education and Sport are your specialist subjects, you may choose to follow a degree programme in Sports Science, Sports Development, Physiotherapy, Sport Psychology or Leisure & Recreation Management.
Many of our past students have graduated to careers in Teaching and Coaching, Physiotherapy & various positions in the Health & Fitness Industry, whilst others have chosen the Police, the Fire Service or the Armed Forces.
Additional Information
You will be required to wear appropriate kit during all practical sessions.
There is a recommended text book whch can be bought for less than Ã,£20. Exam Board Revision sessions are recommended. Normally the cost is £45 for the full course.
