About this course

Students should seek to achieve very good grades at GCSE to go onto study AS and/or A Level Physics.

A grade of A or B in Physics or double award science are advisable along with mathematics but a Grade C are acceptable.

You should also have an interest in the world around you and a curiosity about the way things work. You should also have an appetite for hard work and enjoy thinking about and solving problems.

Physics A Level (Level 3)
Course Content
This course is intended to provide a thorough programme of study for those learners who wish to fully understand how physics operates and regulates phenomena and allow their progression to higher education.
There is a programme of practical work designed to improve students' understanding of the theory and to develop their understanding of experimental investigations.
Study units include:
  • Mechanics;
  • Radioactivity;
  • Electricity;
  • Thermal Physics;
  • Nuclear Physics;
  • Waves and Force Fields.

This course is equivalent to 40-120 UCAS points.
Teaching/Assessment
During the two years there is a programme of practical work designed to improve students understanding of the theory and to develop their understanding of experimental investigations.
At both AS and A Level, students will be assessed by written examination and practical examination over the course of the year which will make up the students final grade.
Progression
A Level Physics is a useful qualification for any technical or scientific course at University such as Physics, Engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical or electronic), Architecture, Medicine, Vetinary Medicine etc.
