What will I be studying?
The first year concentrates on developing competence in the practical aspects of teaching, looking first at how people learn, then lesson planning, assessment of students and managing group learning. The second year widens the focus. You gain competence in using a wide variety of teaching/learning strategies, deepen your competence in curriculum design and evaluation, gain an insight into trends and developments in education and training and reflect on professional development.

Options include: Bilingual Education; Counselling and Guidance; etc.

Assessment is by written assignments plus observation of practical teaching.

Nursing Track : Nurses who are eligible to index with Health Professions Wales will be able to study specialist Nursing modules which will lead to Registered Nurse Teacher Status with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

What can I do when I have successfully completed the programme?
This qualification is for those involved or who wish to become involved in teaching in Further, Community or Higher Education. As well as being the appropriate qualification for College Lecturers/ trainers the PGCE/Certificate in Education is useful for those who have a teaching role in other professions, for example nurses, police, community education, training agencies, indeed anyone whose job involves teaching or training.
