This course is designed to enable students to decide on their suitability for a career in a Public Service organisation. Students will develop the necessary skills for entry into some Public Service organisations. Students can progress onto a National Diploma in Public Services or other relevant Level 3 qualifications.

A First Diploma in Public Services awarded in conjunction with Edexcel (BTEC)
Progression Routes
Students with a merit profile may progress to the National Diploma Public Services or seek employment within the Public Services.

The course includes the following study areas: The Public Services, Public Service Skills, Fitness, Citizenship, Outdoor Activities, Law and the Individual and Workplace Welfare.

Course Content
A one-year full time course which includes knowledge building and practical elements together with work related and personal skills. The course aims to develop an understanding of the work environment in which public services operate and how public services are influenced by the community. You will also gain an understanding of the requirements for employment in public services. Due to the range of modules available, students may achieve a module profile suitable for entry into the uniformed services (Police Service, Fire Service, Ambulance Service, Royal Air Force, British Army, Royal Navy, Prision Service, Customs). A programme of 1- 5 day visits to Public Service Organisations is an integral part of the course including an overseas residential to a major European city (depending on costs).
