Summary
To enable individuals to make an informed judgement of their own suitability for a career within a Public Service organisation. It will also provide individuals with the skills and abilities which enhance selection to promotion and career prospects within the Public Services. Students will also acquire the skills for entry into Higher Education in a Public Service related field and develop the skills and abilities which enable them to contribute towards and work effectively in a 21st century multicultural society.
Qualifications
Edexcel (BTEC) National Diploma Public Services (Uniformed). Also within this course there is an opportunity to take a National Certificate or National Award if this is more appropriate for the student.
Progression Routes
Students may progress to employment in the Uniformed Services or Higher Education Public Services courses.

Specialist Units: Physical Preparation and Fitness, International Perspectives, Outdoor and Adventurous Expeditions, Skills for Land-based Outdoor and Adventurous Activities, Crime and its Effects on Society, Command & Control, The Planning for and Management of Major Incidents, Responding to Emergency Service Incidents, Uniformed Public Services Employment, Understanding the Criminal Justice System and Police Powers, Communication and Technology, Custodial Care, Skills for Water-Based Outdoor and Adventurous Activities.

Course Content
The course includes both knowledge building and practical elements, together with work related and personal skills. It aims to develop an understanding of the work environment in which Public Services operate and how the community influences public services. Students will also gain an understanding of the requirements for employment in Public Service. Work related and personal skills are also included. Students may achieve a module profile suitable for entry into the Uniformed Services (Police Service, Fire Service, Ambulance Service, Royal Air Force, British Army, Royal Navy, Prison Service, Customs). A programme of one-day visits to Public Service Organisations and residential trips (3-7 days), including an overseas residential to Europe, forms part of the course.
