About this course
Students will require 5 GCSE's at Grade C or above although a Grade B in Spanish is recomended.
A genuine interest in the language is desirable. A good work ethic and systematic approach to study are encouraged.

Course Content
This course follows naturally from GCSE Spanish and enables students to function at a more sophisticated level. As well as developing linguistic skills, students will also have the opportunity to explore the social and cultural aspects of life in the country [e.g. entertainment, youth culture and education.]
These topics will be further developed and provide the basis for a study of the Spanish society and way of life.
Spanish cinema will be explored and films will be shown. If you enjoy communicating, you will enjoy this varied and stimulating course.
The programme is structured in themes which examine different aspects of life in Spain and the Spanish speaking world and advances the existing skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Each lesson will offer a mix of skills. Students will be required to use ICT and language laboratory facilities. All students will enjoy the support of native speakers for oral and general language skills.

There will be final exams in June, as follows:
SP1 - Oral
SP2 - Listening
SP3 - Reading
SP4 - Oral A Level
SP5 - Coursework
SP6 - Reading and Writing
Progression
A language at Adavanced Level can lead to a number of areas of employment including retail, business, law and politics.
At degree level, students can choose to study Languages or can combine the study of French with another subject such as Law, Politics or Business.
Languages also offer enhanced opportunities as the European Union Develops.
Additional Information
Each year the College has up to 12 Scholarships worth Ã,£400 to offer the best language student in the College which can be spent to enhance your studies of the language by financing trips abroad. There has been a 100% pass rate for the last 5 consecutive years.
