Special Programmes (Full-time)

Aims:
Courses aim to provide an exciting educational opportunity for adults with learning disabilities. Students study at levels from non-certificated to Access levels 1-3, determined by individually negotiated goals. The curriculum develops a range of social, practical and vocational skills whils improving core skills, independence, self-confidence and citizenship. Students regularly participate in community events and activities, celebrate cultural diversity, develop team building skills on a residential experience, enter trades competitions, participate in enterprise activities and fundraisers and celebrate their work in college exhibitions.

Duration:
1 Year full time August to June (3 days per week)

Content:
Choose from the following full time programmes:
. Art - Art techniques, developing ideas and self-expression, outings to art galleries, literacy & numeracy, IT
. Horticulture - plant productionn, garden maintenance, use of hand tools, safe working practices, literacy & numeracy, IT
. Independent Living Skills - Cookery, Food Hygiene, Cleaning and Laundry, Community
visits, literacy & numeracy, IT
. Sport and Fitness - Swimming, Football, Badminton, Exercise and Fitness,
Hillwalking, Mountain Biking, Work Experience, literacy & numeracy, IT (over 2 years)
. Woodwork - Use of Hand and Power Tools, Health and Safety, Planning and
Ordering, Working in the Community, literacy & numeracy, IT
. Options - A taster course for various subjects including drama, Art, Sport, Pottery,
Construction, Enterprise Projects, literacy & numeracy, IT
. Let's Get Healthy - Healthy eating, using a gym, personal care
. Creative & Personal Arts - Drama Skills, Arts and Crafts, Digital Photography

Further Study:
Our courses offer the opportunity for students to progress their
studies as and when appropriate to their needs. They are
encouraged to move upwards or across subjects to build on
existing skills and qualifications. Students may progress from part
time onto full time programmes whilst some students may
progress onto mainstream NC courses.
