Course description
Designed to enable students to communicate more effectively, this course is for young adults who have severe learning difficulties and who may also have physical disabilities.
This is achieved by developing:
• A greater awareness of immediate aspects of their lives and their environments
• Their ability to make choices and to communicate that choice to other people
• A greater awareness of the world around them
The GOAL curriculum offers:
• Communication
• Cognitive and IT skills
• Design and technology
• Independence skills
• Shopping and cooking
• Using the local community
• Swimming/Hydrotherapy
• Life Skills
• Physiotherapy
• Dance and Movement Therapy
Students are supported by a high student/staff ratio when necessary. However they will work towards reducing this level of support when appropriate. Initial assessments are carried out during the student†s final year at school. A link programme is offered during the summer term prior to leaving school. A place will be offered depending on the outcome of the initial assessments and link programme.
