It is an ideal programme for those who have achieved 2 GCSE's at C grades or above or an appropriate Level 1 qualification. Students are required to attend college and practical placement training on alternate weeks.

Students are required to attend college and practical placement training on alternate weeks throughout the year.The Welsh Baccalaureate is also studied as part of this programme.

Career Prospects and Progression
Students who successfully complete the course may be eligible to progress on to the Level 3 Award/Certificate/Diploma in Childcare and Education. Those who enter employment would be eligible to work with children under supervision in a variety of settings e.g. Nursery/Pre-school, Creche, Playgroup,Toy Library or Homestart.
Modules
Two Mandatory Units leading to an Award in Childcare and Education: Unit 1 An Introduction to Working with Children Unit 2:The Developing Child A further three mandatory units for the Certificate: Unit 3: Safe, Healthy and Nurturing Environments for Children Unit 4: Children and Play Unit 5: Communication and Professional Skills within Childcare and Education. To achieve the full diploma at Level 2: Optional Unit 9 Supporting Children with Additional Needs Unit 6 is an unit of practical placement experience which is studied throughout the course.
Method of Assessment
The course is based on continuous assessments. Each module is assessed through various assessments and students will also complete a Multiple Choice Question(MCQ)paper during the year.
