The study of Politics and Government develops skills which can be used in many fields,encouraging a knowledge of contemporary affairs and the ability to think logically and present a balanced and reasoned argument relevantly and coherently, and to analyse and express ideas well in written form and through debate and discussion.
About this course
Normally students 16 - 19 years of age will require a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A* - C . An interest in current affairs would be an advantage. Entry for mature students without formal qualifications is at the discretion of the Faculty.

Career Prospects and Progression
A Levels provide an excellent basis for progression to Higher level qualfications such as degrees or Higher National Diplomas. The skills and knowledge developed during the study of Politics and Government are useful in many vocational areas including Local and National Government, Journalism, Broadcasting and Media, the Legal Profession, the Civil Service, Political Research, Teaching, Management and Administration.

The course consists of a comparative study of the politics and government of Britain and America, including: " Prime Ministerial and Presidential Government " The functions of the Houses of Parliament and Congress " The Courts of the United Kingdom and the United States " Civil Liberties " Pressure Groups " Political Parties " Elections
Method of Assessment
AS Level - 3 units will be examined 2 x 1hr 15min, 1 x 1hr A2 Level - 3 units will be examined 2 x 1hr 15min, 1 x 1hr 30min Examination will take the form of short answer questions, data response and essays.
