Objectives

Storyboards allow the director and the designers to work together, finalising the designs, camera angles and action before moving into expensive production. This course introduces delegates to all aspects of storyboard and animatic production and demonstrates the use of Adobe products to speed up the complete process from thumbnail to finished animatic. Tips, tricks and shortcuts, using After Effects, Premiere Pro, Bridge and Photoshop will be shared.

The course is aimed at anyone in film, TV, games and even internet production, dealing with multidisciplinary production teams, who needs a storyboard to work with.

Basic techniques


· Working with image sequences
· Splitting layers and making selections in Photoshop
· Using the Vanishing Point tool
· Photomerge and batch processing in Adobe Bridge
· Auto-tracing and Live Paint in Illustrator and in After Effects
· Basic transform keyframe animation
· Basic parenting
· Using effects
· Animation assistants
· Motion sketch
· Panning and zooming
· Working in 3D
· Basic expressions and scripting


Techniques in Photoshop


· Cutting up images
· Compositing images into scenes
· Adding colour and effects
· Preparing images for animation
· Using Pattern Maker
· Using the Vanishing Point tool
· Using the Healing Brush and Photomerge






Techniques in After Effects


· Grouping layers together into compositions
· Animating compositions using keyframes and presets
· Adding cameras and lights to scenes
· Using distortion tools and masks on images to create multiple versions of the same character
· Using generators such as weather filters and particle systems
