This course is designed to broaden and deepen the mathematical knowledge and skills developed when studying A Level Maths. Areas of study include further pure maths, further mechanics and further statistics.
In Year 1, students will study both AS Mathematics and A2 Mathematics.
In Year 2, students will study AS Further Mathematics and A2 Further Mathematics.

About this course

Further study at university. A Level Further Mathematics is often a requirement for degrees in mathematics, physics or engineering.

Grade A in GCSE mathematics is required.

Course programme

Formative assessments consist of classroom exercises and homework which students are required to do to consolidate the techniques and skills that they learn in class.

They also do tests under examination conditions to prepare themselves for the external examinations.

Final formal assessment consists of 1.5 hour written papers that they take in each of the six modules studied in Year 1 and 1.5 hour written papers that they take in each of the six modules studied in Year 2.

Additional information

Students will need a standard scientific calculator. There will be opportunities to attend occasional talks on mathematical topics organized by various Institutions, one of which is Swansea University Mathematics Department.
