Gamekeeper course

The gamekeeper or hunting surveillance agent is a professional figure who deals with the protection and safeguarding of wildlife in the area (wildlife reserves, etc.). The gamekeeper was a figure already present in past centuries and had the task of avoiding poaching in the lands of the nobles, as well as providing them with prey for hunting or fishing. Furthermore, he was a figure dependent on the provincial hunting committees, established with the Royal decree of 5 June 1939, n. 1016, which can be counted among the forerunners of the current agents and officers of the provincial police. The gamekeepers normally carry out a control and surveillance activity in the territory to acquire information on the state of the territory and on the habits of the animals, as well as having a more exquisitely didactic task to educate to respect for the environment, wildlife and the relevant legislation. Furthermore, by reporting to the competent authorities any diseases encountered by the fauna, they ensure the slaughter of sick animals. Among the functions of the guards there is the verification of the permits and licenses of the hunters as well as the contestation of crimes with the possibility of raising fines in the event of violation of the laws protecting the wildlife heritage.
