Assessment Garden Design students predominately produce portfolio work throughout each semester, presenting design, research and drawing work at various stages of each unit. Assessments are varied and reflect the module outcomes of each course. There are both written and practical assignments, and opportunities to work on innovative project work. A few units are assessed through examinations, which take place in January and May each academic year. Careers Whilst we provide strong horticultural knowledge and skills, we also ensure that you develop skills in presenting technical drawings to a professional level, which is essential for those considering self-employment, or joining established practices. Past students have progressed to designing award winning gardens at Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Shows, as well as local events such as the Kent County Show... The UK horticultural market is worth circa. £9 billion each year, and it is predicted that there will be a shortfall of sound horticultural skills in the near future. Based on past success rates we can expect most if not all students to be employed within related industry placements within 6 months of graduation or to progress to higher levels of study within design and horticulture. Successful students can also progress onto a related MA or post-graduate landscape architecture programme. You will need protective clothing, footwear, a horticultural knife and secateurs.
