The BA Hons Degree in Garden Design is accredited by the highly regarded Landscape Institute. Garden design is a flourishing industry with a high demand for design skills from domestic clients seeking high end, detailed garden proposals. Commercial clients such as developers and architects increasingly require professional garden designers to consult with, commission landscape and garden designs and to aid with planning applications as well as the management of on-site implementation.Designed to blend creative and artistic passion with a scientific understanding of horticulture and plants, this programme takes advantage of the extensive established gardens at the College, as well as the links with heritage gardens and industry.What will I learn?Throughout year 1 you will build a foundation of underpinning knowledge in horticultural science, materials & construction, hand and digital drawing, three dimensional design whilst gaining an understanding of the history of designed gardens and landscapes. By working with live garden projects in year 2 for genuine customers, as well as working on hypothetical projects – you will learn to conceptualise from brief, design using CAD software, then to present work professionally to clients or class peers.Garden Design covers subjects such as garden history, surveying, design process, planting design, sustainable technologies in the landscape, ecological principles, 3-D computer modelling, garden restoration & management, planning principles, as well as professional practices. There is an emphasis on developing your knowledge of plants and materials as well as construction and design. You will undertake work based learning in years 1 and 2 allowing you to gain hands on real industry experience while gaining credits towards your Diploma or Degree. About this course
96 UCAS points made up from A' Levels, preferably one in a science-based subject. These points should have been made up over two years of studying at Level 3, or. A minimum of a Merit grade from a relevant vocational Level 3 Extended Diploma. All applicants should have GCSE Grade C or above in English and maths and preferably Science.
