This informal taster day presents an opportunity for both the amateur and more experienced gardener to gain an insight into the world of garden design through a series of talks and examples of professional garden design with lots of inspiration along the way.

You will learn how to transform your ideas into a plan and layout that can be used to develop and/or transform a garden. Through a series of exercises, you will follow the essential stages of garden design, with reference to landscaping, surveying techniques, aesthetic considerations and planting. By the end of the day you will be equipped with the tools to better reorganise the space of your existing garden or to design your perfect garden from scratch.

Pauline is passionate about her subject, enjoys sharing knowledge and encourages her students to do the same.

About this course

To provide learners with an understanding of the garden design process.

No previous experience is required, although some plant knowledge would be useful, together with an abundance of enthusiasm and a desire to learn.

Course programme

THE COURSE INCLUDES
  • Garden Design Tricks of the Trade – a slide presentation explaining the principles of garden and planting design and how they are achieved in the planning of a garden.
  • Research and preparation – looking at the garden within its surroundings, practical and aesthetic considerations, basic surveying techniques.
  • Design development – Using design tools and incorporating shapes, lines and patterns effectively into the design process.
  • Throughout the day we will be looking at various design projects as examples and there will be plenty of informative handouts to take away.
