COURSE TITLE: Initial Assessment
QUALIFICATION PERIOD: 5 years

CORGI requires that all entrants to the gas industry have a background of relevant gas work experience. Being able to show a portfolio of work experience is an excellent way to demonstrate this.
The new entrant course is delivered over four months using a mixture of "on the job" and "off the job" training.
The course starts with three days of training which will cover the areas of work covered by Gas Regulation 26.9 and show trainees how to complete their portfolio of work evidence.
The trainee is then required to carry out two months of on the job training with a CORGI registered engineer, whilst completing a minimum of fifteen jobs in their portfolios.
On the second training visit the trainees portfolio will be scrutinised and any flaws identified and remedial action required to bring their portfolio up to standard. The trainees' knowledge will be checked and expanded to a greater depth so that they will be able to cope with unusual installations and situations whilst out working.
During the second two month "on the job" period, the trainee is expected to complete all areas of work on their remaining fifteen portfolio sheets.
The third visit to 1st Training Ltd is to have the final two days training, while their portfolios are checked, and revisit any areas they feel might be necessary to complete the assessment.
The assessment is carried out over three days and will include;

* Six theory papers
* Natural gas domestic core gas safety assessment
* A single appliance assessment
